Coat of Many Colors

Coat of Many Colors

We read in Genesis of a beautiful coat of many colors that Joseph was given. There’s a direct parallel between Joseph and Jesus’ lives.
Joseph was the chosen son. He knew he was favored by his father. Jesus also knew He was favored by His Father. They knew who they were.
They were both betrayed and sold for silver by people close to them. Joseph by his brothers and Jesus by his disciple Judas (close like a brother), and in the bigger picture, Israel as a whole.
Joseph’s coat of many colors was stripped off and dipped in blood signifying his death. The loss of former glory. Jesus’ royal robe of righteousness was exchanged for man’s dirty rags. His divine glory was sacrificed for us. Jesus, covered in bruises and bloodied, wore a coat of many colors (black, blue, green, red, purple, pink) on the cross. His body was torn: a coat of flesh stripped off, allowing His blood to flow and cleanse us all from sin.
Joseph, through his faithfulness to God, gained everything back and more. He was made 2nd in command of Egypt with only pharaoh having more authority. Jesus, after three days, rose again with victory in His hand and all authority of Heaven, Hell, Death and the Grave in His power. He now sits in authority at the right-hand of the Father far above all principalities, evil spirits, wickedness in high places and Satan.
As you can see, Jesus and Joseph shared many similar experiences in life! Even after their various trials, they remained faithful to God and experienced victory in all aspects of life. If we stay faithful to God’s Word, we too shall experience total victory in every area of life! Hallelujah!
