Ridiculous Love

Ridiculous Love

No one starts out with a relationship with God. We have to learn to trust Him. No one can do that for us. It’s a process of living and learning.

I was the biggest of hypocrites. My family was devout. Everyone was a Christian. They assumed I would be to. I acted the part, but I never believed a word of it. I was young, I didn’t care about church, the Bible, or God. I was not convinced I needed Him. I still prayed though, especially when I was in fear. If there was a big storm, I’d hide in the bathroom, and pray to God that if He protects me and my family that I’ll do such and such and blah blah blah. I really didn’t mean a word of it but if I could trick Him then I’d get what I needed. How silly is that to think I could manipulate God!

Time went on… I was forced to go to church. I thought that I might as well have fun if I’m stuck here. I was invited to attend a Youth Conference, called, “Acquire the Fire.” Everyone in Youth Group said it would be fun. I didn’t get to do a lot of things, so it’d be one more experience under my belt. Only problem was, my parents couldn’t afford the fee. I was bummed because all my church friends were going. Even if I didn’t really like God much, I did enjoy the friendships I made in church. I was sure I wouldn’t be able to go. I went to Youth Group and the Youth Pastor she pulled to the side. Said someone had sponsored me to go and I was all set! I was excited to be able to go with my friends. I really didn’t understand the Lord’s provision at that time. I was thankful though. Not to God, but to whoever paid my way. To this day, I still don’t know who it was.

I packed up, was dropped off at church, and got in a car and made our way to Indianapolis. I enjoyed my time with friends. I attended the Chapel services as did everyone. On the last night, the Newsboys were playing a song. I didn’t know what it was but there was a difference in the atmosphere. Everyone, and there were 1000’s of youth, was praising in one accord. It astonished me. How could all these people trust in God? I questioned it but at the same time I desired what they had. It looked like I was the one that was missing out here. FOMO is real people! There was a warm and comforting presence that I can only describe as, ‘ridiculous love,’ that surrounded me. I was at a loss for words. I heard Jesus speak to me, “I love you, My child. Won’t you love me?” I pondered that for several moments. Why do I need to love You? What do I get out of this? I tried to explain it away, but nothing was working. None of my logical arguments could hold any weight to the words He spoke to me.

They called for an altar call. I was a good hypocrite, I’m sure no one knew I wasn’t a Christian; they weren’t about to find out now! I couldn’t resist any longer; I accepted Jesus in my seat. All of a sudden, the soothing atmosphere multiplied a thousand-fold! I had a sense of belonging and hope that overwhelmed me. I was a new creation in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT – 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
I felt different. I couldn’t explain it, once again, at a loss for words. But I had a peace unlike anything I’d had before. I had a joy that was bubbling up inside of my heart that I’d never had before. All of these new experiences coincided with Jesus coming into my heart. It was wild, it was awesome, and I was transformed.

Romans 1:20 NLT – 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities–His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
I know what you are thinking. “Yeah, that was for you, but I’m different, I don’t need God and He doesn’t need me.” We were all born to have a dependency on someone or something. Babies need loving parents. Children need caretakers. Friends need each other. Citizens need organization from a government. People rely on food, water, electricity, plumbing, shelter, and clothing. There is never a completely isolated, self-sufficient, person who has no dependency. In that same vein, every person was created by a loving God for a purpose. Apart from God, we lose our purpose. We depend on Him because we were created to be in communication with Him. But because of Adam and Eve’s sin, our spiritual connection to God was severed.

Romans 10:9-11 NLT – 9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never be disgraced.”
Through Jesus, we can be reconnected to God. We find out what He has called us to do. He has blessed us with many giftings, talents, abilities, and blessings. Life is more fun with God than without (John 10:10). He has designed a glorious future for those who trust in Him (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 3:20). He wants to help us walk through life (Psalms 23). Satan is the deceiver, but God knows all his tricks. He helps us avoid his traps and protects us from evil (Psalms 91). God gives everything we’ll ever need (2 Peter 1:2-4). He has equipped us to take down Satan’s schemes. There is so much to know about God, and He wants to demonstrate to you His true nature of love, joy, peace, mercy, and goodness beyond anything you’ve ever seen before. Won’t you let Him?

2 Timothy 2:13 NLT – 13 If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is.
I know I was doubting from the very second. Even after hearing Him speak to me, I still doubted until I couldn’t hold out any longer. I could not deny the truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Only through Jesus can anyone go to Heaven. Only through Jesus can broken hearts be mended (Psalms 147:3). Only through Jesus can bodies be physically healed (Isaiah 53:5). Only through Jesus can addictions and evil spirits be broken (Colossians 2:15). There is only one name that can save, and that name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Acts 4:12). The one and only true Messiah, Christ, and God in the Flesh. Believe on Him and you’ll receive His, “ridiculous love,” just like I did.

1 John 4:9-10 NLT – 9 God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. 10 This is real love–not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

“Lord, I thank You for every person reading this article. Lord, I ask that You make Your presence felt right now. That You touch every heart and flood the atmosphere with Your ridiculous love. I ask that You speak to each person and let them know that You are real, that You do care, and that You have their best interests in mind for them. Lord, I thank You for sending Jesus to rescue us from sin and death. Jesus, we are forever grateful for Your sacrifice on the cross to save all who call on Your name. We call on Your name, Jesus, to restore and heal each person’s heart, mind, emotions, will, and body that trusts in You. We praise You for we are Your children God, and we delight in You today! Amen!”
